Libyan debts: clinics' claims raised between Tunis and Tripoli

The issue of unpaid Libyan bills owed to the Tunisian health sector was discussed on 21 September 2026 in New York by the Tunisian and Libyan foreign ministers, who stressed the need for coordination to resolve it. No amount or payment schedule was announced.

The claims relate mainly to the treatment of Libyan patients in Tunisian facilities. The Chamber's president, Prof. Boubaker Zakhama, has put them at more than 350 million dinars; a sector representative cited over 400 million dinars in March 2025.

The Chamber is calling for diplomatic and financial mediation to settle these debts, which date back to 2016.
